WOW! This was a bonus side trip that we didn’t plan on.
I miscalculated how long it would take to get to the Grand Canyon today, so we had lots of extra time. Petrified Forest is along the way so we decided to check it out. After watching a short film at the Visitor Center to learn how the trees became petrified, we drove through the Painted Desert for some spectacular views.
The we took our first hike which was along a trail that showed petroglyphs.

We’re pretty sure this shows an escalator and some hammocks.
Our next hike was along a (paved) trail that brought us through a spectacular forest of petrified trees.
Kermit needed a rest after all of the vigorous exercise he did.
Thinking about how hot you have been, it's funny to see the girls in the sweatshirts and trying to keep warm. Great posts!
