After packing up our campsite we drove east out of Yosemite. Before leaving the park we stopped at Tuolumne Grove to go for a hike through the giant sequoias.
Rowan came up with the next shot and titled it “Kermit finding his inner tree-frog”.
We then headed to Bodie State Historic Park. Deirdre and Steve told us we HAD to check out this ghost town.
Established in 1859 we learned that Bodie was a gold rush town. By 1879 the population was up to 10,000 people. Gold and silver were mined for many years then at the beginning of WWII the US government shut down these mines in order to employ the miners at different sites to mine copper and other minerals needed for the war effort. It was cheaper for people to leave their belongings behind and purchase new ones than to ship them to their new homes, so most of the buildings that remain are still furnished. It’s been a ghost town since 1962, preserved by the state of California.
Clearly Shea had had enough of Bodie by the end of our visit!
